July Color Combo Blog Hop

Hi! Thanks for joining our blog hop today. If you arrived from Helena's http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif thank you for hopping all the way down to me! If you are here and didn’t come from the previous blog, I am listing the hop below my post so you can go start back at the beginning if you wish!

The color combo for this month is just delicious! It reminds me of some of the colors I saw in Nicaragua 5 years ago. The summer hues palette comes from Design Seeds.

I chose to make a scrapbook page this time. I started out by grabbing the cardstock that matched the combo then searched for patterned paper I could use. I found the pictures that worked with the combo and my patterned paper. Then I set to work. It's a very simple layout that showcases the photos and the story.

Thank you for joining us today! I hope we have inspired you to get creative. If you use the color combo yourself, let me know. I'd love to see what you do with it!

Here's the whole train in case you missed out on anyone:

XOXO Scraplift Challenge

I've been wanting to participate in the XOXO monthly challenge for awhile, but just haven't found the time. I found the time this month and was able to scrap a very special photo at the same time.
I used Katherine Blue's page as the inspiration:

This is my scraplift:

I tend to be leaning towards very simple layouts lately. But, this just makes the picture take center stage, which is what is most important.
Now it's your turn. Play along with the lipstick chicks at XOXO and you could win a fabulous prize from Candy Shopped Designs!

NVS Challenge!!

I am so in love with this month's challenge!! First it is extremely blue. I loooove blue. It also had lots of hearts and a cute, ruffly dress. I'm usually not girly, but I loved the girliness of this collage. What wasn't to like about it??

Since blue and black are really happy colors for me, I decided to use pictures from my birthday. My husband bought me an instax camera for Christmas. If you haven't seen one of these, it is AWESOME! It's like Polaroid, only the pictures are smaller. It's completely different than my usual digital camera, where I can take 500 pictures and not worry about deleting them later. You have 10 pictures on a roll of film and that is that. Take a picture you don't like? Sorry, it's yours forever. I love the thought process that is involved with this camera. You don't see that in any of these pictures, though! It was my birthday and I didn't take one instax photo all day!
All right, enough about my new camera. You came here for the scrap page! I used a lot of elements from the collage. I started with the wonderful color palette, grabbing a beautiful black background and some sparkly blue cardstock. I actually used the slice to cut our a title from the blue cardstock, but didn't like it and ended up using the sparkly, black cardstock letters over the blue paper. I, of course used the hearts, the film strip, butterflies, the small pictures and the ruffles on the blue dress as inspiration for my ribbon.

I had a great time pleating the ribbon and stapling it in place. After doing that, I glued it to the page. I thought the page was pretty with just the black background and the ribbon.

you've seen what I've done. Now it's time for you to show your stuff! Create something wonderful...doesn't have to be a scrapbook page...using the collage as your inspiration. Then post it at Nerdy*Victorious*Scrapbookers. You'll have a chance to win an awesome, scrappy prize. Also, we're looking for guest designers. If you'd like to be one, mention it in your post!

NVS February Challenge!!

It's time for a Nerdy*Victorious*Scrapbookers challenge. You have until February 28th to make something special using this collage for inspiration:

This is what I came up with. I had been waiting for some pink inspiration to come along so I could scrap this photo of my niece on Easter.

I used the collage for a lot of inspiration: The black heart, the gray and pink color palette, the tickets, the believe title and the nice, big pink flower.

I really enjoyed using this collage for inspiration. I hope you do too! Take from it what you will (the colors, the patterns, the objects, etc.) and do what you do!
Remember, you do not need to create a collage yourself (that's old skool anyway)....just take inspiration from this one and create whatever it is you want.
Post your creation at NVS and you'll be entered to win a prize from Candy Shoppe Designs!
Are you feeling extra nerdy??? NVS is looking for nerdy scrapbookers to join the design team as well. Come share your talent with us! Looking forward to all the great projects this month!

NVS January Collage

It's time for another collage for Nerdy*Victorious*Scrapbookers!! AND...there's already 5 participants, so if you win, you get a great prize from Candy Shoppe Designs.

Here is the collage. I found it ever so inspiring! I love the light colors and the idea of living life from a new perspective!

Here's my take on it:

I drew inspiration from the butterflies, the stark whiteness of the page, and the title and journaling. I really focused on the new year. The last few months of 2010 were rather difficult, but I felt I had ended it well because I was working through the difficulties. I wanted to continue this perspective into 2011 and used that idea for my page. How fitting is that picture??

The Jenni Bowlin butterflies were just perfect and if you've never tried using three to give your layout a bit of dimension, you should try it! It's really VERY easy. If you want directions, let me know!
I hope my layout helps further inspire you in your creative endeavor!

NVS December Challenge!

The collage for this month had lots of bright colors and somewhat of an 80's look to it. I really had a hard time coming up with something. I kept looking at it and thinking. I finally grabbed a picture and tried to let it take me somewhere. The inspiration is pretty obvious...the yellow belt, the blue from the skirt, the peach from the shoes and the awesome quote.

I really think the layout is unfinished. My friend has a dog that loves squirrels and I think it needs a picture of him either laying across the top of "I love you" looking down or jumping up in the left corner. I have no pictures of the dog, though, so, this is my layout for the month. I had originally left all the bling off, but it just looked rather simple. It is still very simple. Who knows, maybe I'll add to it!

Now it's your turn. Take from it what you will (the colors, the patterns, the objects, etc.) and do what you do! Remember, you DO NOT have to create a collage yourself (that's old skool anyway)...just take inspiration from this one and create whatever it is you want. Then post it at Nerdy Victorious Scrapbookers! You could win this fabulous prize from Candy Shop Designs!

And, tell your friends about it!! If there aren't enough players, you don't win a prize!!

NVS November Challenge!

Nerdy*Victorious*Scrapbookers just posted their challenge for this month! It is rather simple, but the nerdy girls used the design, colors, the small pictures and the title for inspiration. What will you use? This is the collage for the month:

Here's my take:

I started with the design first. I wanted something that had 3 little photos and a bigger one. I used the title and the wording. It's the first time I put my journaling over other words. I think it worked fine being bright red. You can't really tell, but I painted over the wordy patterned paper with a pearly white paint.

What is your take on the collage? Visit NVS for more inspiration and then pull out that patterned paper and glue dispenser! I can't wait to see what you come up with!

NVS Challenge!!

Nerdy, Victorious Scrapbookers are back! Here's the wonderfully nerdy collage for the month of October:

I loved that peacock and tried to work with it, but couldn't find the patterned paper I knew that I had with a peacock on it. Oh, the sadness of owning too much paper! So, the colors are what truly inspired my layout this time. It really made me think of Autumn. I decided to go digital this time. I'm a newbie with digital scrapbooking, so my layout is rather simple. I think it works for this picture. I took a picture of my street during the fall and the picture turned out fantastic. I let that be the focus. I tried to work some peacockish looking swirls in to further use inspiration from the collage.

Now it's your turn. Use the collage, use my layout, look at the layouts produced by the nerdy girls at Nerdy*Victorious*Scrapbookers and post a link to your creation. It doesn't have to be a layout. It can be any crafty thing you are inspired to make! Let's see those creations!

New Envious Challenge!!

The prompt for July has been posted at Nerdy*Victorious*Envious You girly girls and cupcake lovers out there are going to swoon over it!

I took the pink, the girly girl title, the brackets, the flower in the corner and swirls and made it my own:

It's about 99% more pink than I typically use. I think it worked well with the black and white photo though. I really enjoyed making the flower. I looked through my stash, but didn't have anything big enough. When all else fails, make your own! You can't really tell, but the pink patterned paper is mounted onto a sparkly white cardstock. It kinda gives it that 80's theme that I think the collage invokes.

Like the collage? Use it as your own inspiration and you could win great scrappy loot!

I think too much

It's been too long. I will try to post more this summer. The end of the year just happened too fast. AND, I'm teaching summer school again. I just need a couple of days to get into the swing of things and then I will finally have some time!

Nerdy Girls June Collage

I loved this collage. This is exactly what I think of myself. My brain is ALWAYS working and it is not a good thing. It is the reason I am up at 6am on a Saturday. I wish I had a switch to just shut it down every once in awhile.

After noticing the title, I noticed the garland across the top and I wanted to recreate that. I thought about doing a photo with myself, but then found these pictures where thinking could have caused me to give up. But, it didn't. Perfect. The other thing I worked on a for awhile was finding the right background paper. I started with a yellower piece and as I started laying photos on it, it just didn't look right. I was so happy when I found the dotted piece. I just love how this page turned out!

Now it's your turn. Use the collage as inspiration for your creation. Then, post your link at NVS! You could win a fun, scrappy prize!

NVS May Challenge

It's time again for a new collage from NVS. The collage features one of my past favorite singers...Blondie! Of course, it's decked out in bright colors with lots of shapes.

Here's my take on it. I really liked the yellow tree and started with that. I used the square shape, the colored pieces falling from the tree, the purple triangles and the yellow lollipop with the ribbon. This is not my usual style and I'm not sure if I really even like the page I came up with. Maybe it will grow on me.

But, it doesn't matter how well I think it turned out. It matters that I used the collage for inspiration and it matters that you do to!!

You can win a great Chloe's closet kit. Get scrapping!

Nerdy Victorious Scrapbookers April Layout

I absolutely love, love, love the collage for this month! It is Alice in Wonderland inspired. When I found this picture of my niece, I thought the quote from the collage would work perfectly. I used the dress in the background as my starting inspiration and worked in a clock, some hearts, the checkerboard pattern, and I placed my blond-haired girl in the right hand corner. I am really happy with how the collage turned out. And, I just adore my niece in that picture!!

Feeling inspired?? Alright, get scrapping. How can this collage NOT make you feel inspired. Post a link to your inspiration at NVS and be ready to possibly earn a wonderful prize pack from Snobby Walrus! What are you waiting for?? Get off the computer and go scrap!

NVS February Challenge!

You're going to love the new February Collage over at Nerdy Victorious Scrapbookers. It has very vibrant colors and lots of inspiration.

When I first saw it, I kinda freaked out. What was I going to do with this?? But, I ran with it when I finally thought of my friend Sara's tatoo! I showed up at her place for dinner with my camera in hand. I told her I needed pictures of her in stripper shoes. She was very leery, especially after the husband followed that comment with "for the internet". But of course, she played right along by allowing me to search her shoe collection and lying on the floor for a photo shoot. Thanks Sara!! I went a little crazy with the stickles, but I think the layout and the busyness of it portrays Sara well. I was disappointed with the picture when I scrapped it. It really wanted to be sideways, but the tatoo looked better right side up. I decided on the latter because that was my focus for this layout.

Now that you've seen the collage and my inspiration, get your creative juices flowing and submit links to enter to win $20 or more of scrappy supplies!!
